On October 8th and 9th I drove from southern Maine to central (western) Maine to observe the fall foliage. There was very little color in the Sebago Lake Region and north in the Bethel to Rumford area (even though the State's official Web site said the entire region was "near peak"). On Saturday, literally overnight, Route 127 in Georgetown sprang to life with vibrant color. Routes 22 and 35 west of Portland through Gorham, Buxton, and Hollis are also breathtaking. These are some of your best bets for leaf peeping this week.
