Birth and Childhood: Stephen Edwin King was born in 1947 in Portland, Maine. He spent part of his early childhood in Indiana and Connecticut but returned to Maine when he was 11 years old.
Education: Stephen King graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1970 with a B.A. in English, qualified to teach at the high school level.
Marriage: In 1971, Stephen King married Tabitha Spruce, whom he met while both were working as students at the Fogler Library at the University of Maine at Orono.
Work Experience: In between churning out the many horror and thriller novels that he's become famous for, Stephen King worked as a high school English teacher, taught creative writing at the University of Maine at Orono, made several cameo appearances in the film adaptations of his books, and directed a movie.
