Overnight Cruise from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scot

Update: As of the spring of 2005, the Scotia Prince no longer departs from Portland, due to a disagreement between the city and the boat's owners. Instead, the city has signed an agreement with the high-speed CAT car ferry, which is expected to make the trip from Portland to Yarmouth, Novia Scotia in six horus.

Portland Harbor is home to the Scotia Prince, a sleek, elegant cruise ship that plies the waters between Portland, Maine and Nova Scotia, Canada, daily. The ship is 485 feet long and 65 feet wide and can carry 1200 passengers and 200 cars.

Taking the Scotia Prince from Portland instead of driving from Maine over the Canadian border can save you 1500 miles round trip and many hours of driving. Better yet, the trip itself is an adventure, providing stunning ocean views, whale watching, sunbathing, live entertainment, and great food.

The ship leaves Portland Harbor every day at 8:00 p.m. and arrives in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, at 8:00 a.m. the next morning. On the return trip, the ship departs Nova Scotia at 9:00 a.m. and arrives in Portland at 7:00 p.m. Cabins are provided.

Included in the fare price is a live floor show, the Scotia Prince Band, and a DJ on the Portland to Yarmouth trip; and trivia games, bingo, horseracing, karaoke, a live floor show, Scotia Prince Band and a movie on the Yarmouth to Portland trip. If gambling is your thing, you can enjoy Blackjack, Craps, Wheel of Fortune, Roulette, Caribbean Stud Poker, Let It Ride, and nearly 200 slot machines in the ship's huge casino. The Casino Bar offers Happy Hour and TV sports.

There's a restaurant on board, where you can order a la carte or partake of the sumptuous buffet. Light snacks and drinks can be purchased in the ship's cafe. Thre's also an onboard gift shop where you can buy souvenirs and cigarettes and liquor without import, federal, or state taxes.

Once in Nova Scotia, drive the coastal roads that hug the rugged headlands, offering views of islands and bays. Stop to explore historic towns and quaint fishing villages. Whether you take an overnight trip or an extended vacation, the Scotia Prince is a fun, relaxing getaway.
