The Portland International Jetport is located about five miles from downtown Portland, Maine, southwest of the city. It's owned and operated by the City of Portland. If you haven't used the Jetport recently, you're in for a pleasant surprise. The baggage claim area has been expanded. A new six-level parking garage doubles the number of parking spaces available for short- and long-term parking and includes a covered walkway from the terminal. The car rental counters are all housed in a glass atrium on the first floor. There's even a floor for frequent flyers. The loop road that takes you to and around the terminal has been greatly improved. All of these improvements makes the Jetport easier to use than ever before.

The Portland Jetport is one of the most convenient and easily accessed airports in the US. You may save a few dollars by flying in and out of Manchester, NH, but you have to ask yourself if it's worth the hassle. If you live in the Portland area and use the Manchester airport, you'll add several hours to your drive, the inconvenience of having someone drop you off at the airport (plus the cost of gasoline), or the $8 to $14 per day parking fee at the Manchester Airport.

Reaching the Jetport

From the Maine Turnpike--From the north or south, take Exit 7A. Once you go through the toll booth, turn right, and the Jetport entrance will be straight ahead.

From Interstate 295--From the North, pass downtown Portland on your left. Take the Exit marked 5B Congress Street (Route 22). After you pass the Westgate Shopping Center, the entrance for the Jetport will be just over 1 1/4 miles further, on your left. From the South, headed towards Portland, take Exit 3 from Interstate 295. At the first traffic light, turn left. Go straight through the next set of lights. At the next set of lights, veer off to the right onto Western Avenue. Follow Western Avenue until you see the Jetport.

Ground Transportation

Ground transportation available at the Portland International Jetport includes taxis (available for all flights), rental cars, limosines, vans, and public shuttle service between the Jetport and other transporation services. Many of the area hotels also offer courtesy vans between the Jetport and the hotel. See "Elsewhere on the Web" in the linkbox to the right.
