Dare to Go Bare!

Nude swimming and recreation in Maine

From About.com

Nudism is alive and well in Maine. You don't hear much about it in the press, and there are only a handful of formal nudist clubs and resorts in Maine, but skinny dipping is still a popular pastime. You won't find most places advertised on the Net or elsewhere. They're more likely to be swimming holes frequented by locals - couples, families, or co-workers who go skinny dipping together after work, etc.

If you're looking for a place to bare it all, ask around about local nude spots. If you can't find one, here are a few that are advertised as nude swimming holes, clubs, or other nudist areas. Keep in mind that these are not places for rowdy parties, and loud, obnoxious, or lewd behavior will not be welcomed.

Maine Coast Solar Bears
This non-profit organization promotes the "social clothing-optional lifestyle." They meet socially in a variety of places for clothing-optional recreation.

Sherwood Forest Club
A Dover-Foxcroft off-season nude recreation club for nudist/naturist couples and families in Northern New England.

Frenchmen's Hole
A secluded spot in Bethel, Maine with several swimming areas and a waterfall. The upper swimming hole is for those who usually wear bathing suits, and the lower swimming hole is where the skinny dippers go.

Lakewood Lake
Clothing-optional swimming and sunbathing spot near Bar Harbor. The nude sunbathing takes place on a rocky outcropping hidden from public view, and nudists go swimming right off the ledges.

American Association of Nude Recreation
Find out more about nude recreation from the nation's oldest, largest, and one of the most respected nudist organizations, with 240 private clubs, resorts, and RV campgrounds, and nearly 50,000 members.
