Pumpkin patches are scattered all over Maine. Here are a few in the Portland and southern Maine area.

Douglas Hill Orchard--Pick your own apples, pumpkins, gourds and pears in a beautiful setting in the foothills of the White Mountains near Sebago Lake. A picnic area with panoramic views is available, so pack your lunch. Follow the signs from Route 107 to Orchard Road. Open from sun-up to sun-down daily in the fall.

Maxwell's Farm--Pick your own pumpkins and hayrides are available Fridays 3:00 to 5:00 and Saturdays 11:00 to 5:00. Call the 24-hour hotline for dates and times. Located in the Two Lights area of Cape Elizabeth. Phone: 207-799-3383.

Windy Hill Farm--Pick your own pumpkins at 115 River Road in Windham. Open from 9 am to 6 pm. Phone: 207-892-9246.

Kelly Orchards--Pick your own apples, pumpkins, and winter squash from 9 am to 5 pm on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays in September and October at 109 Shanborn Road in Acton. Phone: 207-636-1752.

McDougal Orchards--Pick your own pumpkins and apples daily from 9 am to 5 pm through October in Springvale, one mile south of Route 11A on Hanson's Ridge Road. Phone: 207-324-5054. Restroom facilities available.

Randall's Orchards--Beautiful family farm, 15 minutes from Portland on Randall Rd. in Standish, just off Route 25. Many varieties of apples, peaches, pumpkins, and squash plus a working cider mill. Call 207-642-3500 for dates and times.

Spiller Farm--Pick your own apples and pumpkins in Wells on Route 9A, 2.5 miles from Route 109, through October. Call ahead for daily message about picking conditions and hours. Phone: 207-985-2575. Restroom facilities available.
