A Must-see Attraction for Kids

The Children's Museum of Maine is a must-see kids' attraction. Learn-by-doing exhibits, science kits, and programs that focus on Maine's heritage, arts and humanities, science, nature, and health teach kids age 1 to 15 and their families by using a hands-on interactive approach.

Kids can climb a mountain, enter a bear's den, role-play being a crewmember on a 40-foot schooner, man a space shuttle, run a supermarket checkout counter, or slide down a firehouse pole, plus much more. They'll love the computer lab, the TV studio where they can tape their own programs, and the camera obscura, which provides a dramatic panoramic view of the City of Portland and Casco Bay.

The museum, located at 142 Free Street in Portland (next to the Portland Museum of Art), is open Memorial Day through Labor Day Monday - Saturday from 10am - 5pm and Sunday 12pm - 5pm and from Labor Day thru Memorial Day, Monday from 9am - 11am for MEMBERS ONLY (closed the rest of the day), Tuesday - Saturday from 10am - 5pm, and Sunday 12pm - 5pm.

The cost is $6 for kids and adults, and it's well worth it. Admission is free for children under one year of age and is free for everyone on the first Friday of every month from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. For detailed program information, call 828-1234.
